Slack is becoming a CRM UI
Mid-September at Dreamforce, Salesforce shipped AIforce: the CRM’s data, workflows, and permissions show up in Slack, Claude, or Lightning. People do not have to open Salesforce to update a record. That changes what workplace chat and CRM mean on the same stack.
What shipped
AIforce is an interface layer on top of Salesforce. It launches with Slackforce, Claudeforce, and Agentforce Coworker. Slackforce Surfaces put live Salesforce context in a channel. Slack CRM lets people create accounts, log notes, and update records from a prompt in Slack. Slackbot can reason across Slack threads and Salesforce records under existing permissions. Claudeforce drops Salesforce into Claude with prebuilt sales skills. Coworker does the same job inside Lightning. The launch treats Slack as the front door.
Why this moves a grade
A chat tool used to win on channels, search, and apps. A CRM used to win on pipeline and records. Slackforce collapses that split for Salesforce shops: the conversation is where the record gets updated. If the company already pays for Slack and Salesforce, best chat and best CRM are no longer separate shopping trips. The honest grade asks whether agents are allowed to act in the thread, and whether IT will keep permissions in one system of record.
What did not change
WhatsApp still does not get company-owned history or a governed agent runtime. Teams still wins when the company is already on Microsoft 365 and will not buy a second chat. Other CRMs still win different motions. AIforce is a Salesforce-centric story. It raises the bar for act-in-chat on that stack. It does not erase phone-first teams or Microsoft shops.
